Mission of Hope

My friend and Mission of Hope Executive Director Emmette Thompson just shared this email with me. I thought you would be interested in helping this worthy cause. Visit www.missonofhope.org or call the number below to make a donation.

Greetings, MOH Friends;

We have been blessed to provide new Bibles for the Children & Families we serve, over and over again at Christmas.  Two years ago, after sadly learning that many of those we serve might not be able to read to their Children; my dear friend Larry Austin helped locate for us a beautiful Picture Bible.  We were able to purchase 10,000 copies and every penny was donated to pay for these.  What a praise this indeed was.

Well, I have just learned today; that Larry has located an even nicer Picture Bible.  He has negotiated an amazing discounted price for the MOH.  These normally retail for $23.99 each and we can purchase them at $2.50 each.  I have informed Larry to go ahead and order all 10,000 of them.

We have had Donor Friends step up each year to pay for these wonderful and much needed Bibles.  I am humbly appealing for your assistance with Donations to pay for the Bibles I have just ordered.  I feel that I had to exercise my own faith today and entrust that God will touch the hearts of those who might deem this effort worthy.  We must continue to share The Word with those He has allowed us to serve.  It really is the greatest source of Hope we can ever give.

Thank you for your friendship and support.

Sincerest Regards,
Emmette Thompson, Executive Director - Mission of Hope

God is in the Interruptions

Mark Lowry posted this on his blog. It really spoke to me, so I thought I’d share it with you.

“God is in the Interruptions”

“As many of you have heard me say in my concerts, I was having breakfast with Gloria Gaither one morning and she told me that God was in the interruptions of life and very seldom in our plans.  I investigated Scriptures and saw where Mary was interrupted by an angel, Jesus was interrupted with a woman with an issue of blood, and again while He was preaching a sermon some men sawed through the roof and laid a crippled man in front of Him.

Can you think of other places in Scripture where Jesus or Peter or Paul or other were interrupted and God was in it?”

How often do we miss the point of what God is doing because we think it’s an interruption? How many opportunities have we missed because we were too focused on what we thought was the goal?

Merry Christmas in July!

We wish you and your family a very merry Christmas in July.

We have placed blue barrels around central Kentucky so you can help us make life a little easier on these children. Thanks to your kindness and selflessness this year the Mission of Hope will be able to provide school supplies, clothes, hygiene items, toys, and more to needy children.

Look for donation barrels at:

  • Toyota On Nicholasville

  • Specialist in Hair Design, Boston Square Georgetown

    Independence

I’m a bit of a history buff. I’m fascinated by the American generations that came before us. Those who hit adversity head on and not only survived, but thrived. In my lifetime things have been pretty easy relatively speaking. We’ve had no war to compare to the Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWI, or WWII. Even with the recent economic troubles we’ve seen great prosperity compared to generations past. I frequently recall some of my grandfather’s stories about the Great Depression.

I thank God that I was born into such a blessed generation. But I fear our challenge is just now coming to light. Our elected representatives do not appear to have our best interest in mind. We’re seeing unprecedented abuses by the government on its citizens. I fear what our government will do if allowed to continue unchallenged by the people who elected them.

I encourage you to really dig into the issues. It won’t be easy, and it will take a little time, but it is imperative that you be informed. Bypass the fluff headlines of the main stream media, and find out what’s really going on. If you think the biggest news of last week was the death of Michael Jackson you need to do some reading. Find out what our House of Representatives did on Friday, and ask yourself why the media didn’t lead the evening news with that story.

Listening to Christian Radio and Talk Radio is a great start.

It’s time to stop being a bystander, and start being an activist. Write your elected officials, go to a Tea Party, and speak up for what you believe in.

Pray for our leaders, our country, and the church.

    God Bless America!

King's Helper Radiothon to Benefit God's Pantry Food Bank

Today is the first day of the King's Helper Radiothon to benefit God's Pantry Food Bank. This is a cause that is very important to me. It breaks my heart to think about children starving right here in Central Kentucky. They could be as close as the house next door. Families in need could attend your church. Children who only eat when they get free lunch at school could be in your child's class. You may see people in need every day and not even know it. "The face of hunger may surprise you."

Please help us raise money for this worthy cause. Log on to our website www.ckcradio.com to learn more about God's Pantry and to make a donation.

    Thank you.

    Lexington Radio Market

I am truly sorry to hear about the recent shake-ups around some of the radio stations in Lexington, KY. You hate to see anyone lose their job. We could debate all day (and then some) what the reasons were, and whether or not they were good programming decisions. Sometimes change is good. Hopefully the change will be good for all those involved and lead to better opportunities.

This is a great object lesson for supporting the radio station and programs you enjoy. Our stations are commercial, and don't rely on you, our listeners, for direct financial support. But please support our advertisers. Spend your money with businesses who support Christian Radio, and tell them you appreciate hearing them on Christian Radio. When you do this you are supporting us.

If there is a particular program you enjoy. Contact them and let them know. They are doing the program as a ministry, but it still feels good to know people are enjoying and growing from what they do. It only takes a minute to send an email. And when you contact them, be sure to tell them you heard their program on Life 99 WJMM or 770 AM WCGW.

    As always, thanks for listening.

    Important Legislation Information

This just came to me from National Religious Broadcasters. Please prayerfully consider taking action.

In its present form, the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 (H.R. 1913) threatens Christian communicators, broadcasters, Bible teachers and everyday citizens. Members of Congress must be told that the freedom of religion and the freedom of speech are not being effectively protected by this hate crimes legislation. A vote on this dangerous bill is scheduled in the House tomorrow.

On April 22 and 23, 2009, the full House Judiciary committee held a session to “mark-up” H.R. 1913. More than a dozen amendments were offered to this legislation, but none provided adequate protection for the freedom of religion and the freedom of speech. The committee then voted 15-12 to approve H.R. 1913.

If this bill becomes law it will add sexual orientation, and something called “gender identity”, as a new basis for federal prosecution. In other words, if someone commits a “hate crime” and the sexual orientation or gender (which can be broadly defined) of the victim is the perceived impetus for that crime, a brand new federal criminal charge would be brought and the sentencing guidelines under this federal law would be much more severe, and could even include life in prison.

This should be of particular concern to religious broadcasters and any minister of the Gospel because their teaching on homosexuality (among other things) could be considered the impetus to a crime, should a listener/viewer/parishioner commit a crime against a homosexual, lesbian, or transgender individual. Or a listener/viewer/parishioner could claim psychological harm was done to them by the Bible’s teaching on homosexuality and other sexual and gender identity issues, and then drag any minister or religious broadcaster into a lengthy court battle.

Despite the hard work of Bob Powers, NRB’s Vice President of Government Relations, and Craig Parshall, NRB’s Senior Vice President of Communications and General Counsel – along with many other pro-family and religious liberty attorneys and organizations – H.R. 1913 is moving forward and remains very dangerous. This legislation should be important to every American because both religious free speech and free religious expression are at risk as the bill is currently written.

The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 will be voted on tomorrow (Wednesday) in House. Following that, the Senate will begin committee deliberation in the weeks ahead.

Please contact your House Member and tell them that H.R. 1913 is unacceptable and dangerous. To find your member of Congress, and their direct office phone number, log on to www.freedomtobroadcast.com. Also, if you know your member in the House, you can simply call the Capitol Switchboard at(202) 224-3121. Ask for your Member’s position on hate crimes legislation (H.R. 1913) and politely request a NO vote on H.R. 1913.

    The Faces of Hunger

We're in the process of putting the finishing touches on a partnership with God's Pantry in Lexington, KY. I was recently at their facility in Lexington, and had the opportunity to learn more about the wonderful work they do.

I am absolutely amazed that so many people, especially children, are going hungry in Kentucky. In the modern era we produce more than enough food to feed every person on the planet. I understand that infrastructure, political factors and wars prevent us from getting food to some places around the globe, but I just can't understand why a child in Lexington, KY would not have enough to eat.

There are many reasons why someone would need the services provided by God's Pantry. Unemployment is increasing, utility and gas prices going up, and other economic factors cause families to have to choose between food and other necessities. I understand that with my head, but my heart is a different story. And when you factor in kids, I don't care "why" anymore I just want to know "how" to get food to them.

They told us stories about children they believe don't eat unless they are at school. That means children regularly go 2 days without eating. One of the programs God's Pantry provides is giving non-perishable foods to these children to take home with them and "stash" or share with their families.

I'm astounded by the fact that starving children could be as close as the house next door.

Learn more about the hunger problem in Kentucky by visiting God's Pantry at www.godspantry.org And stay tuned. Very soon we will be announcing how you can get involved to feed the hungry in Central Kentucky.

A Blood Donor Saved My Life

Mark your calendars for the week after Easter. We are having our first ever blood drive in conjunction with the Kentucky Blood Center. We thought the week after Easter would be the perfect time to start, considering how important the blood is to us as Christians. The gift Jesus gave by donating his blood is eternal life. The gift we can give by donating our blood is mortal life.

Please help us with this worthy cause. Plan to visit the Kentucky Blood Center the week after Easter to make a donation. As our way of saying "thank you" we will have a special contest you can enter while you are there. We'll have a drawing on that Friday afternoon between 4:30 and 5 pm while we are broadcasting live from the Blood Center.

What's the prize? Well, I don't want to "let the cat out of the bag" so to speak and spoil the surprise. Let's just say, if you thought winning tickets to see Michael W Smith and Steven Curtis Chapman in concert at Rupp Arena was big, you will absolutely want to make sure you register for this contest. That's right. I'm talking about a MUCH BIGGER prize than seeing them in concert. That's all the hints you get... for now.

    Thanks for listening!

As the official radio voice of the National Quartet Convention, 770 AM will again be broadcasting live throughout the week from the exhibit hall in the fair and exposition center. Many of our listeners will be tuning in on their way to Louisville from across Kentucky.

For a minimal investment you can add that something extra that will attract these people to your booth, and help you gain top of mind awareness even if you don’t have a booth.

If your NQC Goal is to:
    A. Meet people
    B. Increase product sales
    C. Gain additional bookings
    D. All the above

770AM can help you meet your goals.

If you’d like complete information, please email: benson@ckcradio.com. Or you may call me, Benson Gregory, at 859-264-9700 x231.

    VIP Access

In my teen and college years I was never far from a Michael W. Smith or Stephen Curtis Chapman CD. They were by far the two most popular CCM artists. I saw both of them in concert. Stephen Curtis Chapman on the "For the Sake of the Call" tour, and at Ichthus. And Michael W Smith on the "Go West Young Man" tour. Great shows.

April 26 is your chance to see these two incredible artists together in one night at Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY. As if that isn't cool enough, Life 99 will have your chance to win not only concert tickets, but also special passes to go back stage and meet Michael W. Smith and Stephen Curtis Chapman.

Stay tuned for all the details! Thanks for listening.

    Valentine's Day

This Friday, February 13, Dr. Laura will change the format of her radio program and bring to her listeners the "Second Annual 'Lovey-Dovey' Valentine's Day Special." Last year's special was such a big hit that we want to do it again this year.

The Dr. Laura Program will celebrate love, and devote the entire three hours on stories, comments, questions, and dedications about love. Listeners are urged to call in with the funniest, silliest, craziest stories about what they've done for love, or call in with their significant other to share their love story on the air.

Every caller who gets on the air will win one of a series of special gifts, including $75 gift certificates from ProFlowers, $75 gift certificate from Blinds.com, "Heart & Soul - Celebrating 50 years of Motown" CD (available now only at Hallmark Gold Crown stores), and autographed copies of Dr. Laura's bestseller, The Proper Care and Feeding of Marriage.

Hear Dr Laura weekdays from 3 to 6 pm on Vicky AM 1250 WVKY.

    Winter Weather Round One 2009

I hope you are safe and warm during the storm.

In case you are wondering why we are not on the air (Life 99 WJMM, 770 AM Southern Gospel, and Vicky AM 1250) there is a power outage at our studios. Hopefully that will be resolved soon, and we will be back on the air before you know it.

Please remember to pray for our state and city leaders, those out in the weather working to keep roads clear and restore services, and those without heat and electricity.

The Red Cross is opening shelters for residents who were forced to evacuate their homes due to major power outages caused by the recent ice storm.

The Fayette County shelter will open at 11:00 am on the 28th of January at Dunbar High School, 1600 Man “O” War Blvd in Lexington; and at 1:00 pm at the City County Park (the Blue Building) at 402 Park Drive in Nicholasville KY.

If you have been forced to evacuate your home due to this power outage and require assistance please contact the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross at 859-253-1331.
