Christmas Spirit

I'm really getting into the Christmas spirit early this year. We've been planning our special Thanksgiving and Christmas programming for a while now, and that always helps get in the Christmas Spirit. More on our special programming later.

Each year we work with different organizations to make life a little brighter for those less fortunate. This year we are partnering with Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Christmas Child – Shoebox gift, to help children in need. You can help by visiting www.samaritanspurse.org to learn what is needed. Then you can drop off your shoebox with gifts enclosed at one of the following locations:

In Lexington - Northeast Christian Church, Gardenside Baptist Church, Parkway Baptist Church, Porter Memorial Baptist Church, and Ashland Baptist.

In Nicholasville - Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

In Richmond - First United Methodist Church.

In Georgetown – First Church of the Nazarene, Georgetown Baptist Church

You can also visit www.samaritanspurse.org to the Zip Code Locator to find a drop off location near you. Those of us with Central Kentucky's Christian Radio want to thank you for your generosity!

National Quartet Convention 2008

We had a great time at this year's NQC. I hope you enjoyed our live coverage on 770 AM WCGW. Several people stopped by to say hi. It's great to see our old friends, and make some new ones.

I kept forgetting to take my camera. Finally Thursday and Friday I remembered to take it, so we don't have a whole lot of pictures. Here are a few of Bruce and our guests.

Long-running Hoax Resurfaces

Petition 2493, originally known as Madalyn Murray O’Hair’s Religious Petition, has resurfaced ? again!

This new round of the hoax erroneously states that an organization has been granted a federal hearing by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in Washington, D.C. “to remove Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyer, A.R. Bernard, TD Jakes, and other pastors from the airwaves.” It goes on to say that Petition 2493 would “ultimately pave the way to stop the reading of the Gospel of our Lord and Savior on the airwaves of America” and that this “group is also campaigning to remove all Christmas programs and Christmas carols from public schools.” The e-mail further states that “we are praying for at least 1 million signatures.” Among many other pleas to “stand up for your religious freedom” and unite as Christians, the e-mail further tries to legitimize its contents by using Dr. James Dobson’s name, stating that he is going to appear on CNBC to urge every Christian to get involved. It then asks the recipient to add their name to the list of previous signers and forward the e-mail. Or, if the recipient is not “comfortable” with signing the petition and forwarding, it asks the person to return it to the sender. Once all 1 million signatures are obtained, the e-mail asks the last signer to forward it to a particular name and e-mail address.

The contents of such an e-mail are false and have been perpetuated for the past 30+ years using different variations of the “threat” and different names, but the originator seems to particularly like using Dr. Dobson’s name the last few years and usually does include the petition number (but not always).

For the truth, visit the following links to the FCC, NRB, and Focus on the Family, and please... pass it along:

Use Radio to Enhance Your Ministry

If you’re a minister of the gospel or directly involved in some kind of evangelical ministry this message is for you.

We currently have a few excellent time slots available on our Lexington stations. We're looking for ministries who are faithful to the word of God, and who have a vision to reach out beyond the four walls of the church building.

If you sense that God is leading you and your church to use radio as a means of out reach to people who may never attend church, I'd like to discuss that with you. Just ask for me, Benson Gregory, at Central Kentucky's Christian radio 859-264-9700 ext 231. I look forward to talking with you.

Promote your ministry at the 2008 National Quartet Convention

Attention Southern Gospel Artists, this message is for you!

As the official radio voice of the National Quartet Convention, 770 AM will again be broadcasting live throughout the week from the exhibit hall in the fair and exposition center. Many of our listeners will be tuning in on their way to Louisville from across Kentucky.

It’s the perfect opportunity for you to add that something extra that will attract these people to your booth, and help you gain top of mind awareness even if you don’t have a booth.

If your NQC Goal is to:
A. Meet people
B. Increase product sales
C. Gain additional bookings
D. All the above

770AM can help you meet your goals.

If you’d like complete information, please email: benson@ckcradio.com. Or you may call me, Benson Gregory, at 859-264-9700 x231.

Thanks in advance for your interest,
Benson Gregory

I love summer!

Summer has always been my favorite time of year. I like to be outside, and the warmer temps and longer days make that a lot more enjoyable. Another reason to enjoy summer is that the longer days mean more great Southern Gospel music on 770 AM!

You are no doubt aware that we are required to sign-off 770 AM WCGW when the sun goes down. (Don't get me started on how absurd I think this is. We'll be here all day.) June is the month with the longest days, so that means 770 AM is on longer in June than any other month. We sign-on at 6:15 AM and sign-off at 9 PM. That means you can enjoy more of the music you love.

You can find our sign-on/off schedule at 770's website: www.wcgwam.com

Thanks for listening!

Freedom isn't Free

It's the unofficial start of summer, and that means a three day weekend for most of us. We hope you have a great weekend with your family, traveling, or enjoying a movie. But please take a minute this weekend to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Remember those families who have lost someone in the service to our country. And pray for those service men and women who are currently deployed around the world, and for their families back home. Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.

Save Christian Radio

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is considering some changes to rules governing radio stations. These rules are potentially very harmful not only to Christian Radio, but to all radio stations. The good news is you can help! For more information please follow the link below.
